Rain, Rain…Go Away!
Even in the most beautiful places, with the most ideal weather, you can’t avoid the occasional rainy day. And what do you do on those days when you’re trapped in the house with the kids???
Here are a few of our favorite ideas:
1. Build a fort – you know you want to… Every kid loves this, and every parent remembers loving it as a kid; so just get to it already. Get a few chairs in the middle of the room, throw a sheet over the top, put some pillows on the floor and snuggle in with your kids. You’ll experience instant gratification as you feel the cocoon of your labor envelope you and make you feel as safe and secure as you did when you were little. Only problem is that now you have to bring the snacks, read the books, and rebuild it when it all comes tumbling down – but as a mom you’re used to that by now…
2. Get crafty. So you’re not Martha Stewart, so what? The good news is: this means you’re not an ex-con, and your kids have no idea who she is anyway. Plus most craft stores today have projects that anyone can do. Even if you haven’t been to the craft store lately, there are plenty of household items that are safe for kid crafting. For example, you can do macaroni art. All you need is a cup of raw macaroni, glue and some construction paper. Ok, and maybe a wet towel for clean up.
3. Play office. Let’s face it, people of all ages like a little role playing now and then – so, get your little guy suited up in his Fat Tie shirt, dust off that old briefcase that you just can’t part with (it’s in the bin with the other reminders of your “old” life), and send him to the office for the day. And don’t forget to have his juice and hotwheels on his desk when he arrives. Oh, and he’s busy unless Bob, Sir Topham Hatt, Buzz or Woody call…
P.S. He’s going to love this game, so make sure he’s well stocked on his work attire – tie shirts for boys.
