Founder (aka “Head Honcho”) Marinella Gallen drew her inspiration from her son, Max. After seasons of back-to-school and birthday shopping, Marinella grew tired of the played out clothing options she encountered in stores. Boys’ styles seemed limited to dinosaur and monster truck prints, while girls’ designs stuck to frills, lace, and pink.
Marinella established Fat Tie, Inc. after attending the University of Florida, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism, and the Los Angeles Trade Technical College, where she added a fashion design degree to her credentials. Her later advertising agency experience in public relations, advertising and packaging proved crucial in preparing Marinella for the multi-disciplinary role of running her company as a dynamic entrepreneur, fashion trendsetter, and, above all, a mother!
Surrounded by the glitzy glam of Hollywood, Marinella spotted celebrities in uncomfortable “penguin suits” at red carpet events. She also picked up on children’s love for dressing up like adults. She saw a need for clothing that could go from mommy’s award ceremony to the playground and back. As a mother, she wished to create versatile, no-fuss clothing that was comfortable and easy to care for.
Her indie designs have won accolades from the press, discerning parents and hip children everywhere. Marinella currently lives Southern California with her stylish son.
